Omar wants Anna to end fast

Srinagar, Aug 27 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday said Anna Hazare should end his fast for a strong Lokpal bill even as he expressed his displeasure over some remarks made by Team Anna members about the country's elected representatives.

"I hope Anna breaks his fast now. Anybody more than 70 keeping a fast for 12 days is a matter of concern for everybody," the young chief minister told reporters here after his arrival from Delhi

"Now that Anna Hazare has achieved what others could not after many years, it is time the issue of legislation should be now left to parliament," Abdullah added.

"India has more than 100 crore people and the right of the parliament to pass legislation cannot be compromised," he said, referring to the demands made by Team Anna to get their version of the Lokpal bill passed.

He also regretted some remarks made against MPs and legislators. "It is unfortunate such comments should have been made by members of Anna's team about elected representatives of the people, but I am not going to return them the compliment.

He hoped after the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's statement in Lok Sabha initiating the Lokpal debate, there was no reason for Anna to continue with his fast.

Earlier, Abdullah had posted on Twitter: "Since nothing is happening in the world other than Anna & I refuse to tweet about Anna ergo I can't tweet about anything :-)."

Taking a dig at Team Anna member and former top cop Kiran Bedi and her antics on stage at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on Friday, Abdullah posted: "I'm sorry but I have to ask just what the hell was Kiran Bedi doing on stage this evening? Did she really think she helped her cause?"
