Mangaluru, Nov 4: The CCB police on Saturday November 4, arrested a notorious thief who was involved in a chain snatching crime.
The arrested accused is identified as Chandrasekhara (29), a native of Ramanagara district. He was arrested near Bangrakulur on a definite tip-off. A 21.300 gram gold Mangalasutra chain which the accused had robbed and a motorcycle used in the crime was seized. The items seized are valued at Rs 2,41,00.
Earlier on October 21, a case was registered in Mangaluru east police station that two unknown youths came on a motorcycle and snatched a chain from a woman's neck when she was on her morning walk on Bejai church main road. A special team was formed from the Mangalore CCB unit to trace the accused in the case and the team arrested the accused and succeeded in taking possession of a gold chain worth lacs of rupees and the motorcycle used in the crime.
Cases of extortion, murder, attempted murder and assault have been registered against the accused in Harohalli police station of Ramanagara district, Kumblagodu, Bidadi and Dabus Pete and Nelamangala rural police stations of Bengaluru rural district.
This investigation was conducted under the guidance of police commissioner Anupam Agarwal, DCP law and order Siddhartha Goyal and DCP crime and traffic Dinesh Kumar under the direction of Mangaluru CCB unit ACP P A Hegde. The officers of CCB unit were involved in the operation.
