Bihar, Nov 6: The dream of cracking the UPSC examination made Manoj Kumar Roy sell eggs, work as a vegetable vendor and mop the floors of an office during his days of preparation for the examination.
In 2010, despite all odds, Manoj Kumar cleared the UPSC examination and secured 870th rank. At present, he works as service officer at the Indian Ordinance Factories.
In addition, Manoj Kumar devotes his time during weekends to coach poor students who are aspiring to crack the tough UPSC exam absolutely free of cost. He goes 110 km up and down from Nalanda where he is working in Rajgir, just to coach poor students.
Manoj says that after clearing the UPSC in his fourth attempt, he thought of under privileged students who aspire to become IAS officers and that is why he offers them free classes. One of his wards Reshu Krishna secured 13th rank in the BPSC examination.
Anupama Kumari, wife of Manoj also supports his vision of coaching students for the UPSC. She is deputy commissioner of Patna city. Reshu Krishna who got 13th rank in BPSC, serves as DSP and owes her success to coaching of Manoj and Anupama.
One more student of Manoj, who secured the 390th rank in the BPSC examination says that it was Manoj who aspired him to take up BPSC after he failed in UPSC. He said that the classes taken and tips given Manoj were very invaluable. In the recent combined BPSC examination, 45 students coached by Manoj have cleared the examination.
