Bantwal, Aug 28: A woman tried to commit suicide along with her three children at Kolnad village here on Sunday August 28. She pushed her children into a pond before jumping in, and one of them, a baby, died.

The deceased is Zunaifa, daughter of Zubair, resident of Mangilapadav. The locals rescued his wife, 28-year-old Zainabi and children 4-year-old Zaheera and 3-year-old Zunaina. All three are under treatment at a private hospital in Mangalore.

Zubair, a native of Savanoor in Puttur taluk, and his wife Zainabi lived in a rented house in the neighbourhood of Vittal, near here. They shifted to another rented house at Mangilapadav recently.

Zainabi had gone to her parents' house located in Kolnad village, near here, where the incident took place. Abdul Khader Kallamarai, a neighbour who heard a splash rushed to the pond and managed to rescue Zainabi and her two children.

Vittal police arrived at the spot and with the help of swimming expert Abdul Razak retrieved Zunaifa's body.  Zainabi and her two daughters, who were given first-aid at Vittal hospital were later admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore.

The motive behind Zainabi's attempted suicide remains unknown, though it is suspected that she might have been frustrated with the financial constraints of the family. Zainabi’s husband Zubair works in a poultry farm in Vittal. Zainabi had tried to commit suicide once before her marriage too, say the locals.

Zilla panchayat member M S Mohammed, Kolnad gram panchayat president Subaschandra Shetty, vice-president Balakrishna Gowda, members Yousuf, Vittal Padnoor gram panchayat member Siddiq and others visited the spot.

Bantwal circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni, Vittal sub-inspector Rakshit registered a case in this regard.

Very sad incident. May the child's soul rest in peace. Our religous head should educate common people that suicide and murder is a big sin. Nobody has the right to take away other's life as well as own's life. It is God's gift and we should not go against his will.

So difficult to digest this heartbreaking news. May the baby's soul rest in peace. Suicide is not the solution for everything. There are many organizations who can provide help to the poor and needy.
They may reach them and get help instead of losing hope.
No one to be blamed in this incidence as the news itself tells everything.
