Udupi, Nov 10: Senior journalist Shashidhar Hemmanna (67) passed away on Thursday November 9.
Shashidhar experienced chest pain all of a sudden when he was in his residence at Udupi on Thursday. He was found to have suffered a heart attack during examination at the hospital in the city. Therefore, he was being shifted to Manipal hospital for further treatment. But his condition became serious on the way while in the ambulance. He was under treatment at the intensive care unit of the hospital. But he passed away without responding to treatment late in the night.
Shashidar started his career with Kundaprabha newspaper in 1991. He started his own weekly newspaper titled ‘Kshitija’ and was its chief editor. He was later the district news reporter for ETV Kannada and DD news. He was the inspiration for several upcoming journalists. He wrote articles about agriculture in Hemmanna, Prajavani and other newspapers and drew the attention of the government.
He started Connect Media organization recently and had indulged in starting several projects across the state. He was an expert in government survey and he has the reputation supporting the growth of several political leaders.
He was an environment lover, liked undertaking agriculture and was responsible for bringing about the Kandlavana project in the coastal region. He was hugely concerned about natural calamities and was leading in the programmes to create awareness among people about conservation of water. He was known as the bold journalist with social concern.
He has left behind his parents, wife, son, four brothers, a sister and a large number of friends and relatives. Dignitaries in the state have expressed their condolences on his sad demise.
The family sources informed that his last rites will be held at the residence of the family at Edamoge, near Kamalashile, Kundapur at about 9.30 am on Friday.
