Sullia: Herd of seven elephants found near highway

Sullia, Nov 12: The lone tusker that created fear among the residents of Panjikallu on Friday left for the nearby forest on Saturday. However, a herd of seven elephants including a baby elephant was seen roaming in the same area on Saturday.

The herd goes to forest during day time and enters the farm lands of Bellippady under Delampady village, Devaragunda, Murooru, Panjikallu of Mandekolu village and causes destruction of standing crops.

Locals urge that both Karnataka and Kerala governments should take suitable action to prevent the herd from venturing into residential areas.

    time is not far when these will come to city areas also....morning walkers be careful...you might meet a tiger or cheetah or elephant on the way...we have destroyed their food...so they will ask us to provide...

    We have forced these animals to enter into city after we have destroyed the forest and their living grounds. Why blame these innocent animals, while we hardly think about planting the trees and increase the forest vegetation. It is only in recent days such acts are been seen, where the wild animals are encroaching into human living areas. This was not the case in the past. We humans have forced these wild animals to come into our area and we hold them responsible when they rucksuck the human property.
