Udupi, Nov 12: MLA Yashpal Suvarna inaugurated the street lights on NH 169A on Udupi-Manipal main road. He said that this is a Deepavali present to the public.
Yashpal further said, “People had to face inconvenience due to no street lights on this route for many months. In the beginning, this was not mentioned in the tender. Later the technical issue was resolved and the scheme has been implemented under built operation and maintenance model with the help of district administration, NHAI and city municipality. There are 178 street lights from Kunjibettu to Manipal. In the next phase street lights will be installed from Parkala to Manipal, Perampalli Road and Manipal-Alevoor Road.”
DC Dr K Vidyakumari, municipal commissioner Rayappa compered the event. SP Dr Arun K, members of city municipality and other officials were present.
Many accidents were taking place on this stretch due to non-availability of street lights. In addition, vehicle drivers were facing inconvenience. Daijiworld published a pro-people, detailed report in this connection earlier.
