Mangalore: Hoax Bomb Threat to MCC Creates Momentary Panic

Police, bomb squads and sniffer dogs were pressed into action at Mangalore City Corporation here on Tuesday August 30 after an anonymous letter claimed that bombs had been placed inside the MCC building.

High alert was issued in the premises immediately.

 

Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh received the anonymous letter, which contained only two lines and stated that a blast will take place at 3.30 pm when the coucil meeting was scheduled to begin.

Though the building was not evacuated, there were moments of panic among those inside when they heard the news. The police and the squads carried out a thorough search of every nook and corner of th building for nearly two hours.
 
However, everybody breathed a sigh of relief on learning that no suspicious objects were found by the police. Police said that it was a hoax and the culprite will be traced soon.


Council Meeting

Mayor Praveen convened the council meeting later on in the day.

The street vendors who were under fear of evacuation since many months will finally be given two places near the service bus stand, he announced at the meeting.
 
Now that they will be given an alternate location, street vending business in Lady Goshen area and footpaths will be evacuated by resuming Operation Tiger.
 
At a query, the mayor said that Tempo stand area near the service bus stand and the empty space behind the bus stand will be reserved for street vendors. Those carrying out street vending business on the footpath will be evacuated, he said.

He was however not clear about when the decision would be implemented.

    Why Man they are irresponsible. If we all are alert. Each and every corner of city can't be given protection.Municipality must have their own private security to look for their security. They have their budget for this.You talk like irresponsible citizen

    Well MCC is again on media headlines for not good reason. Is the security system for MCC bldg is so vulnerable..? Just like corrupt politician MCC do wana bad image allover...? Officials what they are doing just filling up their pockets...? So, many questions but the Answer must be install fool proof CCTV camera's to full building no other option sir.
