Colombian Police Seize One Tonne of Cocaine


Bogota, Aug 31 (IANS): Police have seized a tonne of cocaine worth more than $12 million from a house in western Colombia, Xinhua reported Wednesday.

The drugs were found in a house in Obando in Valle del Cauca department, said Gen. Cesar Augusto Pinzon, director of the narcotics police.

The cocaine belonged to a drug gang run by Daniel Barrera, alias "El Loco Barrera", a police spokesman said.

Six hundred gallons of aircraft fuel were also confiscated during the operation.

Pinzon said the street value of the seized cocaine is worth 12.5 million in the local black market and about $25 million in the US.
