Mangalore, Aug 31: The message of Eid-Ul-Fitr is to pray to Allah as envisaged in Koran, make donations and gifts to the poor, reciting of the Holy Koran, showing empathy, friendliness and support for the poor people, gratefully remembering the ancestors, maintaining unity of the family and getting trained to achieve universal brotherhood.

Eid-Ul-Fitr is here again. The festival is the culmination of month-long period of abstinence from food and water for 14 hours every day, shunning lies, fraud, injustice, illegal acts and keeping away from deriding others.

The Prophet has said that on the day of this festival, the servants of the God line up the streets and extend a hearty welcome to people who follow the tenets of Ramadan strictly. The period of religious austerity ends with this festival. However, the faithful are advised to continue prayers and efforts to tread on the path of truth as before. The festival succeeds in its aim when it is celebrated in an environment of devotion and contentment, within the limits of religious sanctions. Eid-Ul-Fitr is the celebration of the happiness at the fact that the month of Ramadan was spent strictly as per the diktats of Allah.

The people have to stick to what Allah has preached, even after Eid. Their aim should be to satiate the hunger and thirst of suffering people. They should serve the poor and suffering human beings, without differentiating them on the lines of religion, status, etc. Eid-Ul-Fitr begins with the sighting of the Shavval moon, upon which, devotees go to Idgah or mosques for Eid-Ul-Fitr namaz. A sense of thankfulness to Allah should permeate through oneself during this festival.

Fitr Zakaat is doling out of donations and gifts, as mandated by Allah, as remedial measures for any omissions or commissions which might have occurred while following the austerities of Ramadan month, is an important feature of Eid.  Rich persons have been ordained to donate 2.5 percent of their annual income to destitute, poor people, and others who serve Allah without any remuneration.

On the day of Eid, people come together with their families, neighbours, well-wishers, friends and local people, and cement brotherhood with them. They exchange goodwill messages, shake hands and hug each other towards this end. On Eid, people come together and consume tasty food prepared at home. Allah does not take kindly of those who exult at their riches and status, and also those who do not love other people around them. Those who love fellow beings get love and blessings in abundance from Allah.
