Kaup, Nov 19: A tragic incident unfolded as a motorcycle collided with a couple who were crossing the road near Pangala petrol pump on NH 66 on their way to a Mehendi program at a relative's house. Regrettably, the impact resulted in the death of the woman, while her husband is currently hospitalized.

The deceased has been identified as Vijaya Shetty (61), wife of Pangala Sadaadi Padumane Shekhar Shetty. Both individuals fell onto the road due to the force of the collision. Concerned locals rushed them to a private hospital in Udupi, where the doctors declared Vijaya dead.

Shekhar Shetty is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

I don't completely blame the vehicle driver's, but of course there are some irresponsible drivers who don't have sensible driving skills. Its a tragic incident although there are some pedestrians who carelessly walk off the roads thinking the vehicle should stop for them. If a pedestrian thinks that the vehicle in motion should stop for him then they are at ego, because any vehicle cannot be brought to halt all of a sudden. Any incident happens after this the blame game starts stating its the fault of the bigger vehicle like if a bike hits a pedestrian the biker is at fault similarly if car hits a biker the car driver is at fault and if a heavy vehicle hits a car the heavy vehicle driver is at fault and so on... No one really cares about to know who's mistake was. People just find a way to make the next person guilty even though he is not at fault. Nowadays all the traffic rules have gone down the drain. People drive in opposite direction to avoid long U-turns in order to save some pennies, putting life at risk for themselves and also the oncoming traffic. Until and unless people understand their social responsibility this is not going to change. to worsen the situation the construction of unscientific roads is added risk to those incidents and no one gives a damn why because there is insurance....

The probability of getting hit by a passing vehicle is very high in and around Mangalore; almost everyday somebody or the other is killed or maimed for life; one of the worst place for accidental deaths in the third world.... sometimes the electric 💡 poles too carry current due to sloppy wiring and cheap material; very very risky to take support of such metal poles while crossing the highly elevated road dividers lest you perish with an electric shock!!

i agree with you 100% born, brought up and living in heart of the city, i have seen this city go from lush green to the total boredom and concrete jungle...rampant corruption in MCC, tahsildar and all govt offices...the buzdil public does not raise a voice....just pay and there is competition in giving bribe among mangaloreans....the rich and affluent say..UPPADAPPA...when giving bribe...believe me gowdas pay hefty sums in bengalore to get transferred to Mangaluru...

Careless vehicle drivers (especially in Mangalore) drive like zombies. They've no patience and humane feeling towards their fellow beings. The only way this nuisance will stop is by extracting blood money as is prevalent in the Middle East from them as negligent riders think the roads they are driving on belong to their fathers. Another problem .... there isn't a single subway or sky-walk constructed on main arterial roads of Mangalore or outside Mangalore jurisdiction where people can avail such facility and risk of accident is nullified. We are building roads after roads .... but give a damn towards infrastructure meant for civil use in the name of subways or sky-walks since corruption is rampant.

#Joseph; unlike what is being projected about Mangalore it's nothing like that; Mumbai is much better organized and has excellent public transport infrastructure unlike here; the auto fare is much higher than Mumbai also cost of living which too is much higher than Mumbai; it's not anywhere near the Kodial of yesteryears!! There are much better places elsewhere to settle down.

believe me the city is much hyped by mangas living in Kudla...actually other cities are much better and cleaner...worst public transport...be it buses and looting rickshaw fellows....no one dares to question these thugs...it is better to live in places like Karkala...Bantwal etc..peace of mind and away from the polluted city supplying drainage mixed water..
