Kundapur, Nov 21: Hundreds of people, along with the parents, who lost their newborn, held protest in front of government hospital of the city on Monday alleging doctor negligence in the death of the newborn during delivery.
Srinivasa Karvi and Jyoti Karvi are the couple who lost their child. Jyoti was eight-and-half-month pregnant and arrived at the hospital for check up on November 16. When asked about scanning, the doctor said that there was no need of any scan. Jyoti returned home and later developed stomach pain. Srinivasa Karvi took Jyoti to the government hospital. It is said that the duty doctor was not available and they did not get Jyoti admitted.
In the morning on November 20, Jyoti had a normal delivery but the doctor said that the baby died immediately after the delivery. When Srinivasa Karvi asked for the reason and the doctor said that the intestine was wound around the neck of the newborn. Hence the public which got enraged, alleged doctor’s negligence and held a protest right from Monday morning.
Tahsildar Shobha arrived at the protest site on Monday evening and assured the protesters that action will be taken. However, the protesters urged the district health officer (DHO) to come to the spot and take action against the erring doctor. The DHO arrived a little later but the protesters said that they will not withdraw the protest until the doctor is suspended.
Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole, who arrived on the protest site supported the protesters. Citizens of Kundapur also stood in support of the protesters. MLA Gururaj Gantihole warned of Kundapur and Gangolli bandh if the doctor is not suspended on Tuesday.
