Bengaluru, Nov 22: Reaching health services to the doorsteps of all is the goal of the Congress government, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the anaemia-free Karnataka programme organised by the State Health Department, he said good health will not be possible as long as poverty-illiteracy-inequalities are not eliminated.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who ruled Gujarat for 10 long years and is from that State, must answer why Gujarat is falling in the health index,’’ he said asking the ‘Vishwaguru to answer why India’s malnutrition index is rising’.
Siddaramaiah took the opportunity to lampoon the much-talked about Gujarat model and asked Modi to reply malnutrition index in Gujarat is constantly rising and its downfall in health index is continuing. “Can this be a model for the entire country,’’ he asked.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and Women and Child Welfare Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar called upon the health department officials to strive for improving the health of all citizens, particularly children.
Urban Development Minister Bairathi Suresh and Chief Minister’s Legal Advisor Ponnanna were among the dignitaries who attended the event.
