Bantwal, Nov 23: An incident unfolded in Brahmarakotlu on Thursday evening when a stolen bike was involved in an accident with a Thumbe school bus. The unidentified bike thief abandoned the two-wheeler at the scene and fled.
The collision occurred due to the thief's high speed and reckless driving, leading to the bike colliding with the school vehicle before the culprit fled on foot, leaving the stolen Hero Honda Splendour bike behind. The bike belongs to Baby Gowda, a resident of Koragatte village in Vamadapadav.
Baby Gowda had parked his bike at the foot of the B C Road flyover before taking a bus to Mangaluru. Unaware of the incident, he received a call informing him of the accident as he returned from visiting a sick relative in Mangaluru.
Upon reaching the spot, Baby Gowda discovered that his bike had been involved in an accident, ridden by a 45-year-old thief who sustained minor injuries. The thief, fearing discovery, fled the scene, leaving behind his footwear.
Hub of vehicle thieves
Recent reports highlight an increase in vehicle thefts along the highway, particularly targeting two-wheelers parked under the B C Road overbridge. While some vehicles have been recovered, many remain missing. Concerns have been raised by the public, emphasizing the need for high-quality CCTV cameras in the central area of B C Road to address the rising incidents of theft and maintain law and order.
