Mangaluru: Bike hits man crossing road - Rider killed on spot, pedestrian seriously injured

Mangaluru, Nov 26: A bike rider was killed and a pedestrian seriously injured after the two-wheeler hit a man crossing the raod at Padre Dwara on NH 66 near Mukka in the city.

Vaibhav Vishwanath (21), a final year computer science student of Mukka Srinivas College is the deceased. M C Farookh, chief secretary of Jumma mosque of Mukka is the injured person.

It is said that Farookh was crossing the road with a petrol can in his hand as his Activa was parked on the other side of the road. Vaibhav was rushing to college in the afternoon and lost control of the bike and hit Farookh.

A case in this connection is registered in north traffic police station.

    It has been observed that most of our pedestrians crossing the roads in Mangalore adopt a care-a-damn attitude towards the approaching traffic. There are some who just don't bother looking on either sides when crossing the road. There are even others who cross the road so leisurely as if they are heading towards a public park/an evening walk and think the vehicle owners will slow down seeing them crossing the roads. I think ours is the only country in the world where rules are thrown to the wind in the garb of chaltha hain chalatha hai policy. There is no end to this stupidity. No matter how much of time and money is spent on awareness it is futile ... it just goes down the gutters.

    kis kisko samjavoge brother? yeh third world country hai...people and cattle both same...wherever they get chance to cross the road they will...some even stand on the dividers and the buses pass very closely....a slight bend forward or backward will cost life...it is like Andher Nagari chowpat raja of delhi....

    Dear, You people must read Central Motor vehicle act first, Animal has first right on road, Pedestrians comes next, You have vehicle means you cannot hit anybody on road. India has best road safety rules since 1989, The corrupt and in competent Indian RTO officials issuing Driving licenses without ensuring road safety rule knowledge.

    For an aspiring Smart City, Mangalore does not have pedestrian crossings with zebra lines and traffic lights and there are no strict rules and penalties for not giving priority to pedestrians who try to cross the road on zebra lines if any there. In many countries the violators get heavy penalty and in case of injury to the pedestrian they lose the license and spend some time in jail.

    First of all the traffic department must mark Pedestrian crossings zebra mark, and everyone must cross only at the marked place. Then only this type of accident can reduce. Everyone is busy in crossing the road. Peoples are not educated and literate in our country. P

    very sad to read...young man lost life and another will suffer due to injury...only solution implement dubai standards of roads and lanes...RIP to young man and best wishes for speedy recovery of the injured person...
