Rajasthan Fort's Wall Collapses

Jaipur, Sep 2 (IANS): A portion of the wall of about a thousand-year-old fort in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer town has collapsed but there were no injuries, police said Friday.

The incident happened Thursday around 6 p.m. near Gopa Chowk area, about 600 km from here.

"The wall was already in a dilapidated state and recent rains caused further damage," a police officer told IANS.

As the wall came crashing down, owners of nearby shops ran for safety, the officer said. A portion of another wall in the fort had collapsed Aug 14.

Known as the "Golden Fort", it was built in 1156 A.D. by the Bhati Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal.
