Bengaluru, Nov 26: The Bengaluru City Police have cracked a huge network that was operational in Mysuru and Mandya in which five people including two doctors were arrested on the accusation of aborting more than 900 foetuses in two years.
The accused arrested are identified as Dr Tulasiram, Dr Chandan Ballal, Meena, Rizma and Nissar. The accused conducted these illegal activities in the Matha Hospital of Mysuru and used to carry out around abortions of 22 to 25 foetuses per year.
Police arrested four accused while they were taking a pregnant woman to Mandya in October. During interrogation the matter of foetus abortions came to light.
Shed in Mandya used for abortion
The accused used to identify women not only from Bengaluru but from nearby districts and north Karnataka as well and bring them for getting abortion. Some used to come for sex determination tests also. Later they used to get the female foetus aborted and pay a specific amount.
The accused used to carry out their activities in some parts of Mandya in addition to Matha Hospital of Mysuru. This was going on for some years. Baiyappanahalli Police said that the matter came to light when they arrested Veeresh.
During interrogation the accused confessed to having aborted around 900 foetuses in two years. Dr Chandan Ballal was absconding after he came to know about the arrest of his staff.
On Saturday, he was apprehended. Police officers say that more accurate information will be available from him.
Matha Hospital at Udayagiri in Mysuru and Ayurvedic piles day care centre at Dr Rajkumar Hospital have already been confiscated. It is suspected that this racket has spread to many more districts. Only after interrogation of Dr Ballal more details are expected to come to light according to senior police officials.
