Udupi, Nov 26: The Manipal police raided a black car based on a tip-off that four individuals were selling ganja near Sheembra Bridge, Shivalli village, Udupi taluk, received on Sunday, November 26, in the afternoon.
Upon reaching the location, the team found four persons allegedly involved in the sale of marijuana and arrested them. The arrested individuals include Abdul Latif (32) from Sasthan, Mustaf Hanja Bally (35) from Koteshwar, Mohammad Ashfaq (21) from Sasthan, and Shakilesha (25) from Uppur. The authorities seized 274 grams of ganja, a car valued at Rs 5 lakhs, cash amounting to Rs 19,130, and five mobile phones worth Rs 20,000.
Further investigation revealed that the four individuals had stored ganja with the intent to sell it in Manipal for profit.
A case has been registered against the accused at Manipal Police Station under crime no. 298/2023 and sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act for selling narcotics in Manipal. The ongoing investigation into the network has also uncovered that students studying in Manipal were the target. Several students are believed to be involved, and appropriate actions will be taken in the upcoming days.
A team, led by Sub-Inspector Raghavendra C of Manipal police station, Officer T Gururaj, Taluk Magistrate, and police personnel, including ASI Vivekananda, Abdul Razak, Sukumar Shetty, Prasanna, Aruna Kumar, Channesh, and Manjunath Ravaran conducted the operation.
