New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS): The railways want to remove slums from its property "in a humane manner" and are taking steps to prevent more slums from coming up, parliament was informed Friday.

Minister of State for Railways Bharatsinh Solanki said the rehabilitation and resettlement of such slum dwellers would be done through railways' Sukh Griha Scheme or other such schemes.

The issue had been taken up with ministry of housing and urban poverty alleviation "to arrive at a policy solution to relocate these slums", the minister told the Rajya Sabha.

"Railways are also engaged in a continuing exercise to prevent fresh encroachment by protecting railway land and property by providing boundary wall, fencing and tree plantation," he said.
