Chain-snatchers fire at pursuing youth

Ghaziabad, Sep 2 (IANS) A gang of chain-snatchers Friday fired at a youth, who attempted to pursue them, police said. Though the youth was unhurt, his car was damaged.

Seema Agrawal, wife of a local trader, was robbed of her chain by two motorcycle-borne snatchers near Chiranjiv Vihar when she was going to a nearby grocery store for shopping.

As she shouted for help, a youth started to chase the robbers.

As the snatchers realised they were being chased, they opened fire at the youth. He escaped the bullets but his car was damaged and the criminals succeeded in fleeing the spot.

The youth was identified as Apoorv Tyagi, who is pursuing his MBA from a private institute in Delhi.

Chain-snatchings have increased in Ghaziabad in recent times.

On July 24, a railway engineer was shot dead in Kavi Nagar area after he tried to chase the chain-snatchers who had robbed his wife of her chain.
