Puttur: Girl Student Loses Life in Accident

Puttur, Sep 3: A first year PU student named Lakshmi (17), daughter of Rajan from Kombaru Tamil Colony, died after a jeep overturned at Ennettody near Alankar on Uppinangady-Kadaka state highway on the evening of Friday September 2. Lakshmi was a student of Durgamba PU College, Kadaba. She is survived by parents and a brother.

The student had taken part in the procession relating to Ganeshotsava organized in her college. She was returning home from Kuntoor to Alankar in a jeep. The accident occurred, when a motor bike driver who was coming from the opposite direction, after overtaking a bus, hit  the jeep head on. The jeep driver lost control over the vehicle, and the jeep overturned as a result. Lakshmi suffered serious injuries in the accident, and died in a private hospital here later.

Wilson, an employee of a rubber purchase centre, who was riding the motor bike, also suffered severe injuries. He is being treated in a private hospital at Mangalore. Four other girl students, who too were injured, were admitted into a private hospital in Puttur for treatment.

A case was registered in Kadaba police station in this connection. The injured persons had a hard time in getting treated on time, as the 108 ambulance summoned carrying them to hospitals suffered tyre puncture.

 

Udupi Woman Dies in Bangalore Accident

Udupi, Sep 3: Ramya R Kamath, wife of Girish Pabhu, residing near Karavali Junction in Bannanje here, lost her life in an accident that occurred at Chandra Lay Out, Bangalore, on Friday September 2 morning. She was 28.

Ramya, who was living with her husband at Chandra Lay Out, was going to her office in her two-wheeler, when a gas tanker hit her vehicle from behind near Attiguppe signal. The accident happened barely a furlong away from her home. As the wheels of the tanker crushed her, she lost her life in spite of wearing a helmet. She was an executive in Swiss Re Company. Her husband, Girish Prabhu, works as an executive manager of Cage Mineral Pvt Ltd in Yashwantpur Bangalore.

Ramya, daughter of Ratnakar Kamat and Shantala Kamat from Teerthahalli, had married Girish Prabhu, son of the late Ganesh Prabhu from Udupi, about four years back. She is survived by parents and husband.

The Byatarayanapura traffic police registered a case and arrested the driver of the tanker in question for investigation.
