Kundapur, Nov 29: The Udupi Lokayukta conducted a raid on the office of the Kundapur Deputy Conservator of Forests on Wednesday evening, November 29, following information about a clerk there demanding a bribe.
B Manjunath Poojary, a clerk in the office of the Deputy Conservator of Forests, Kundapur sub-division, was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta police while extorting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Several days ago, forest officials had seized an Eitcher lorry transporting Malabar Ironwood tree logs from Alur. It is alleged that Poojary demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to release the seized vehicle. Those associated with the lorry reported the matter to the Lokayukta, leading to a raid on the DCF office on Wednesday evening during the bribe exchange.
A team led by Udupi Lokayukta Inspector Rafiq conducted the raid, and the investigation is currently underway.
