Panaji: Kuwait-Goa Air India Flight Suffers Tyre-burst while Landing

Daijiworld Media Network

Panaji, Sep 6: In yet another incident of an aircraft coming close to a major tragedy, an Air India flight 976 from Kuwait to Goa burst two of its tyres while landing at the Dabolim airport here on Tuesday September 6.

The aircraft is yet to be cleared off the runway. All 105 passengers on board are safe, sources said. The flight was on its way to Chennai.

The incident took place at around 8.30 am, airport officials said. Alternate arrangements will be made to ferry the passengers to Chennai, it is learnt.

This is one of several incidents of close shaves reported over the last few days from different airports. Over the past week or so, there have been three emergency landings and two incidents of aircraft veering off the runway.

On Saturday September 3 a Mumbai-bound SpiceJet flight carrying 136 passengers from Bangalore made an emergency landing in Mumbai airport following hydraulic failure.

On August 30, Chennai-Bangalore-Thiruvananthapuram Air India flight had to land in an emergency situation at Thiruvananthapuram for the same reason, and the very next day, a Jeddah-Mumbai flight was in a similar situation at Mumbai airport.

On Friday September 2, a Turkish Airlines flight also veered off Mumbai airport's taxiway, with no casualties reported.

At Kochi airport, a Gulf Air flight skid off the runway on August 30, injuring seven and damaging the flight.

Luckily, despite so many incidents, there have been no casualties.

Why everybody blames AI or AIE? is it because we always travel on that flight as it is most convenient as well as affordable compared to other airlines. may be other airlines may offer competitive prices at times, but at the end this is the airline which always is used by us. guys stop blaming the national carrier simply if u do not know ABCD of aviation or aircrafts.when few days back Gulf Air had an incident in kerala no body commented against it. in fact most of them praised the pilot!!!! strange.... lets stop doing the blame game and appreciate for what we have. we should be proud that we have the best pilots in the world.

MR. NARAYAN BELCHADA: It is very
true that the airlines of those
countries may not be getting proper
    maintenance, and the employees are
not paid well. So the planes and
the employees are going to act
    differently. Two of the tires
were bursted at the same time in the recent mishap. Was it due to
the careless landing or due to the
    worn out tires?

Thank you for saving lives Lord. He certainly must be a well trained pilot to handle the aircraft from going out of control.

Wow, Air India is breaking record after record, that too on a regular day basis. I construe, its name must have already gone into the Guinness Book of Records for falling under the ''highest risk'' category. Makes us Indians really proud. Incredible Air India ! ! ! Jai Ho to the Air India Maharaj - even if the airline is liquidated and doomed lekhin Maharaj Ki Shaan par kabhi aanch nahin aane dena.

Jollyguy try travelling by Biman ( bangladesh airlines) or any african airline and you will think twice before commenting on AI. Agreed that we have some way to improve but that does not mean outright criticism. Have you travelled in Africa in aircraft of those countries? some of them dont even ask or find out whetjer you have boarded or had your seat belt fastened.

You will not even get a glass of water and sometimes the cabin lights are off because they dont work. the pilot is the god as your life is in his hands! time to change our mind set. its our airline ! India's!. be proud even if it is not good. that is the way to change

No maintenance of planes and no maintenance of runways . air india people on strike most of the time. also many pilots with fake licenses . we should not be unduly worried because it is our karma . nothing can be done about. This is our way of living.accept death and disasters with an open mind.

Prajwal, Planes use reverse thrusting to stop the plane.Brakes as the one used on vehicles are not used on aircrafts. The most advanced tech is used to stop the planes. Further a lot of testing is done in wet conditions. This is just the case of pilots not being trained properly.

Indian aircrafts must incorporate ABS ( braking system) like we have in cars and this will solve the problems. now it is raining season that is why skid problems. anti skid measure must be put. Airbus & boeing must be informed of indian climatic conditions to attach anti skid equipment on aircraft tyres

Mr U.M.Shetty most of these problems are unavoidable in any airline. Specially Flight Control Failures.. EG: What happened to Spice Jet. Technical snags like these can happen at any point of time, in air, before push back for departure, right after taking off.. and with regards to skidding off the runway due to rain, one of the reasons may be from heavy landing and landing way past what you call a runway threshold, how you brake and control your reverse thrust and throttle / braking / anti skid from the point of touch down.

We do not understand now a days continuously we are reading lot of news about the landing problems of flights in India and many air ports ... Is it because of lack of maintenance or natural problems beyond control? .. This has to be looked into very seriously because it is the question of lives of many people ..
