Mangaluru, Dec 9: Two PU students were swept away in rough waves at Someshwara beach on Saturday December 9.
The deceased are identified as Yeshwith (18), son of Shekhar from Kunjathur and Yuvaraj (18), Jayendra from Kunjathur Majalu.
The incident occurred in the afternoon on the Saturday as two teenagers ventured into the sea for recreation. Local fishermen and Ullal coastal police initiated search operations for the two students.
Yeshwith and Yuvaraj, students of Parijnan Pre-University College, Someshwara in their second year in the commerce department, had finished classes and headed to the sea for leisure in the afternoon. At that time, as one student was caught in the waves, the other student, in an attempt to rescue him, was also swept away by the waves. Ullal tahsildar H N Balakrishna visited the spot and along with local fishermen, initiated search operations.
The sea near Someshwara has already claimed many lives. Despite warnings on rocks and cautionary measures by the authorities, students and tourists often ignore the danger and get into the sea, risking their lives. Ullal tahsildar H N Balakrishna has urged visitors to the area to be cautious, pay attention to warning signs, and take necessary precautions while enjoying the sea.
This incident highlights the need for visitors to prioritize safety and take heed of warnings, especially in areas prone to rough seas. Local authorities and fishermen are actively involved in search and rescue efforts to locate the missing students.
