Moodbidri: Bus Rams into Autorickshaw - Woman Dies, Three Others Injured

Moodbidri, Sep 8: In a tragic incident, a woman lost her life when a college bus crashed into the autorickshaw in which she was travelling here on Wednesday September 7 evening.

The autorickshaw was being driven by her husband, and their son and daughter too were present. All three sustained injuries.

The deceased is Shakuntala (27), wife of Ravi Bhandary of Anekere in Karkala. Along with Ravi, their son Pratish (10) and daughter Prateeka (4) have been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore.

Some of the students in the bus escaped with minor injuries.

The bus, belonging to an engineering college, was plying from Belman to Karkala while the family were going to attend a family function in Venur.

The accident took place near the Beluvai-Kantavara cross. The impact of the accident was such that the autorickshaw was pushed for several metres after the bus rammed into it, finally crushing it against a tree. Another vehicle was also damaged in the process.

A case has been registered in the Moodbidri police station.

    This Mangalore pvt. bus service is unique in India, nowhere do they drive at such reckless speeds and overtake like life and death situation putting at risk lives of innocent passengers. In this tragic case, the family lost a loved mother leaving behind a distraught husband and 2 small children. Such drivers should be given stringent punishment, fine, and their driving licences should be impounded with immediate effect, then only, there will be some fear in the heads of this dragons!! The time has come for the localites to start a movement like Anna's to put an end to this....
