Customs seize smuggled gold worth over Rs 17.73 lac at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru, Dec 16: Authorities at Mangaluru International Airport intercepted a passenger arriving from Dubai on Indigo flight 6E1163, based on APIS data and profiling conducted by Mangaluru Customs officers on December 14. The individual was apprehended after crossing the green channel.

Upon closer inspection and scanning of the passenger's trousers, a dark image raised suspicions. A subsequent thorough examination revealed a concealed yellow-collared paste material within the layers of the trousers.

Through a meticulous extraction process involving heat, officials successfully recovered 286 grams of 24-carat pure gold (net weight) with an estimated value of Rs. 17,73,200.
