Chidambaram Holds Meeting with Top Security Officials

New Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS): Home Minister P. Chidambaram held a security review meeting with the intelligence and investigating agencies' officials here Thursday, a day after a powerful bomb blast killed 12 people outside the Delhi High Court.

The meeting was attended by heads and officials of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon also attended the high-level meeting to take stock of the security situation in the country.

The NIA is leading the probe to identify the perpetrators of the terror attack. But investigators appeared clueless so far because the probe initiated soon after the blast had not made any major headway.

An email attributed to the Pakistan-based Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami (HuJI) terror outfit claimed the responsibility for the bomb blast. The email has been tracked to have been sent from a cyber cafe in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district.

The state police have detained the owner of the Global Internet Cafe and he is being questioned.

Threatening to carry out more such attacks, the email to two television channels in Delhi demanded that the hanging of 2001 parliament attack convict Afzal Guru be repealed immediately.

Wednesday's blast at Gate No. 5 of the high court complex has left 91 people injured.
