Mangaluru, Dec 17: The CCB police have arrested a person on charges of possession of fake currency notes and for trying to circulate them near Kankanady in the city on Sunday, December 17.
The accused is identified as Praswit, 25, son of Chandrasekhar and a resident of Abupadpu, near Keerteshwar of Manjeshwar Post.
The seized counterfeit notes were of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 500 denomination. According to the police the accused arrested had so far circulated fake notes worth around 8,000 to 9,000.
The police seized fake currency notes that include three numbers of Rs 500, two of Rs 200 and three of Rs 100 denomination and a mobile phone handset from the accused.
The police have seized in total 8 fake notes valued at Rs 2,200, a mobile phone handset valued at Rs 10,000 and 35 genuine currency notes valued at Rs 4,250 from the accused.
The search operation was conducted under the guidance of Anupam Aggarwal IPS, commissioner of police, Mangaluru City, Law and Order DCP Siddhartha Goyal, and DCP Crime and Traffic Dinesh Kumar under the direction of Mangaluru CCB Unit ACP P A Hegde.
The assets of the accused were searched. Officers and staff of the CCB unit participated in the operation.
