No Casualty From Earthquake

New Delhi, Sep 8 (IANS): There were no casualties or damage in the earthquake that rocked Delhi overnight, officials said Thursday.

The 4.2 Richter scale quake shook Delhi and neighbouring areas at 11.28 p.m. "No damage or death was reported," a fire department official said.

Many panicked residents rushed outside of their homes after the tremors.

"We could not sleep for the rest of the night fearing another tremor. Thank god nothing happened," said Shweta Sharma, a resident of east Delhi.

The epicentre of the quake was in Sonepat in Haryana, about 90 km from Delhi. The quake was also felt in Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

Delhi falls in Zone 4 of earthquake intensity zones and is designated a high damage risk zone.
