Mangaluru, Dec 20: The CPI(M) DK unit organized a protest rally in Mangaluru on December 19, calling for the holistic development of Dakshina Kannada. The rally, led by state president Muneer Katipalla, moved from Ambedkar Circle to Mini Vidhan Soudha in Mangaluru.

Katipalla emphasized the need for MLAs to advocate for development in government hospitals and the operation of KSRTC buses. Accusing the BJP of dominating the DK and Udupi region, he alleged that legislators from the saffron party favored the Sangh Parivar and neglected the concerns of fishermen during distress.

The protest highlighted issues such as the employment of non-locals in industries, flawed administration in smart city projects, ongoing sand disputes, and the neglect of beedi workers. The activists demanded a district-level action plan for housing and sites for the poor, immediate implementation of the House Rent Control Act, and resolution of technical issues regarding the registration of construction workers.

The rally also addressed concerns over emotional issues raised for political purposes, the exclusion of Tulu language from the constitution's 8th schedule, and the lack of measures for farmer, Dalit, and labourer welfare. Protesters urged the timely completion of national highway works, fair tolls, and the fulfillment of demands for the Koraga community's housing and land rights, as recommended by the Dr Muhammed Peer committee report. They also called for the distribution of agricultural land among Koraga community members and the prompt release of scholarship amounts for students.
