Mangaluru: Srinivas Hospital Mukka celebrates success in brain tumour surgery

Media Release

Mangaluru, Dec 21: Every nerve is important but some are more important than others. Like the nerves that control breathing, heartbeat, swallowing etc without which life will cease to exist. This area is the brain stem.

In a momentous medical achievement, Srinivas Hospital at Mukka has successfully conducted a life-saving surgery on a 46-year-old patient, C1- C2 dumbbell schwannoma with spinal cord and brainstem distortion with vertebral artery compression and large paraspinal extension.

Dr CA A Raghavendra Rao, chancellor of Srinivas University and president of the A Shama Rao Foundation, and Dr A Srinivas Rao, pro-chancellor of Srinivas University and vice president of the A Shama Rao Foundation, congratulated Dr Deepak Suraparaju on his successful surgery. Dr Deepak expressed his joy and contentment with the surgery's outcome, which demonstrated the hospital's dedication to providing excellent patient care.

Dr Deepak, visibly delighted with the successful operation, stated, "We were faced with a challenge of dealing with a life-threatening tumour in the junction between brain stem and spinal cord with severe compression and encasement of critical structures (C1-C2 dumbbell schwanomma), in a 46-year-old lady from Dharmastala. With the help of neurosurgical equipment such as operating microscope, high end microsurgical instruments and monitoring systems. We were able to successfully overcome the challenge and excise the tumour completely and managed an early discharge within 5 days from surgery completely free of any new neurological deficits."

Dr Deepak, along with Dr Prashanth, Prof Anaesthesia, and the dedicated postgraduates, nurses, and support staff, worked tirelessly to care for the patient. The success of this surgery not only serves as a beacon of hope for patients facing similar conditions but also solidifies Srinivas Hospital Mukka's reputation as a leading healthcare institution in the region, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of medical excellence.
