Mangaluru, Dec 22: Two people turned positive for Covid in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district on December 21. Now the total active cases in the district are three.

An 83-year-old person of Sullia origin and a 40-year-old person of Mangaluru city are the individuals who tested positive. They are treated in isolation ward. On December 20, an 83-year-old person of Udupi origin turned positive for Covid.

Steps are taken to create Covid related awareness at Talapady check-post, Saradka of Bantwal, Swarga of Puttur, Sulliapadavu, Jalsoor check-post of Sullia, railway stations and bus stands.

Health department officials led by district health officer Dr Thimmaiah visited Puttur and Sullia taluk hospitals and private hospitals on Thursday and verified readiness of the hospitals to deal with Covid emergencies. Surveillance officer Dr Sadashiva Shanubhogue accompanied the team.

On December 21, only 10 people were subject to Covid test on December 21. According to state government instructions, 321 people should be tested for Covid every day in Dakshina Kannada. Out of this 100 people have to be screened with rapid test and 221 with RTPCR. All SARI and ILI cases should be subjected to Covid test. But the officials say that the tests were less as it was the first day.

District in-charge and health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao will visit Dakshina Kannada district on December 22. He is expected to hold meeting with concerned officials regarding the steps taken at border areas of the district with Kerala state to check people arriving from Kerala.
