Mangaluru, Dec 22: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada conducted a press meet on Friday, December 22, addressing ongoing COVID-19 concerns and outlining implications of regulations for the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The press meet, attended by Dinesh Gundurao, Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare and district in-charge minister, along with Mullai Mugilan, deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, Dr Anandh, CEO of zilla panchayat, and SP C B Ryshyanth, discussed the need for caution during the festive season. Minister Dinesh Gundurao emphasized the potential increase in public movement and social gatherings during Christmas and New Year, urging the public to follow guidelines.
He noted that while the chief minister has discussed future vaccination plans, the decision of the central government regarding rising cases will be implemented. Despite assurances from doctors that COVID-19 may be less harmful this time, minister Gundurao stressed the importance of preparedness, increased testing, and the availability of medical equipment. He advised people, especially those with health issues and those above 60, to wear masks for their safety.
The deputy commissioner, Mullai Mugilan, emphasized the importance of being prepared for the future, taking zero risks, and proactively controlling the situation before it escalates.
The press meet took place at the Deputy Commissioner's office, with health officials present, and some joining virtually.
