Bantwal, Dec 22: On Friday, December 22, an incident unfolded in B C Road where an alert traffic police officer apprehended a man from Kasargod who attempted to pickpocket a passenger's purse on a bus.
The accused, identified as Nazir from Uduma in the Kasargod district, targeted Karunakar, a resident of Puttur, who had boarded a crowded private bus in B C Road en route to Puttur. Standing due to the bus's full capacity, Karunakar became the victim of Nazir's theft attempt.
Nazir discreetly removed the purse with money from Karunakar's back pocket as the bus approached Panemangaluru from B C Road. A vigilant passenger witnessed the incident and promptly informed Karunakar, who disembarked to confront the thief.
Nazir, realizing he had been spotted, hastily boarded a KSRTC bus bound for B C Road. Noticing this, Karunakar boarded another private bus heading to B C Road and, through a relative, alerted Rakesh, a traffic policeman at the B C Road point, about Nazir's whereabouts.
Upon reaching B C Road bus stop, Nazir, attempting to board a Kasargod-bound bus, was apprehended by traffic policeman Rakesh. The suspect has been handed over to the city police station for further investigation.
Karunakar's purse, containing approximately Rs 6,000 and important documents, was successfully recovered and returned to him.
