Two Drug Peddlers Held in Uttar Pradesh


Lucknow, Sep 8 (IANS): Two drug peddlers working for a Nepal-based racket involved in supplying narcotics to various Indian states have been arrested with cannabis worth around Rs.20 lakh in Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district, police said Thursday.

Rakesh Kumar and Bhagwati Prasad, both in their mid-30s, were nabbed late Wednesday following a joint operation by the district police and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) troopers.

"Preliminary investigations indicate the duo was involved in supplying illegal drugs to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and NCR (National Capital Region)," police Inspector O.P. Rai told reporters in Maharajganj, some 300 km from Lucknow.

"The two have been working for a Nepal-based racket for the last five years. We also recovered cash worth Rs.7 lakh from them," he added.

Kumar and Prasad are natives of Uttar Pradesh.
