Kadaba, Dec 24: Tragedy struck on Saturday afternoon near Mardhala on the Dharmasthala-Subramanya state highway as a head-on collision between an Omni and a Creta car resulted in the death of one individual and serious injuries to eight others.

The Omni was transporting pilgrims from Dharmasthala to Subramanya, while the Creta was traveling in the opposite direction. The collision occurred at the sharp curve in the road at Aleri.

The deceased, identified as Ravi (53), served as the driver of the Omni and owned the Raghavendra Café hotel near the Somwarpet private bus stand.

The injured include Maniyamma (75), Ravi's mother, Vani (47), Ravi's wife, Risha (19), Ravi's daughter, Sharan (10), Ravi's son, Yogesh (55), Ravi's brother, Neetu (45), Yogesh's wife, Neha (24), Yogesh's daughter, and Anjan (14), Yogesh's son. All injured individuals are undergoing treatment at the government hospital in Puttur.

Kadaba police have registered a case in connection with the incident. Local sources suggest that the road narrows down at the curve where the collision occurred, and an electricity pole by the side of the road may have contributed to the obstruction.
