Bantwal, Dec 24: A woman jumped into the Phalguni river to death at Puchamogaru near Sangabettu here. This incident came to light on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Vita Marina D'Souza (32), wife of John Santosh D'Souza and was a resident of Aerodi in Kukkipadi village.
Vita Marina left home on her two-wheeler at 9 pm on Saturday night and then went missing. After that, when the locals came to know about the matter and searched for her, only her two-wheeler was found on the Phalguni river bridge.
The fire brigade also arrived and began the search operation. A dead body was found on Sunday near the Bahugrama drinking water dam, which was built seven years ago.
Financial distress
Recently, she had lodged a complaint with the rural police station about the loss of Rs 21 lac in a money doubling app.
She was previously working as a teacher in a private school. Later, she left the post and became an insurance representative.
It is believed that she took this extreme step due to financial hardships that she faced along with the sorrow of having no children which cast a shadow of gloom in the family which was celebrating the Christmas festival.
Bantwal rural police station SI Bharathi visited the spot. A case has been registered.
