Kundapur, Dec 25: “The society respects the educated. We obtain respect with our age, experience and education. Education is an asset if we know how to use it. We should be duty conscious by being the wealth of the nation with noble thoughts,” said Ishapriya Theertha Sripada of Adamar math.

He was speaking during the 89th birthday celebrations of religious leader, former Basrur MLA, managing trustee of Mahalingeshwara temple B Appanna Hegde. He blessed the occasion during which an agriculture award was presented and scholarships were distributed to students.

The seer said that despite being 89-year-old, Appanna Hegde has indulged actively in the welfare of the society by educating children and being the guide to youth. “He is an inspiration to all,” he said.

Appanna Hegde said that we should have special respect towards Indian culture and principles. “Social service and the trust of the Almighty have made me grow to this stage. I have the satisfaction that I have sincerely performed my duties. It was possible with your cooperation, help from the almighty and the blessings of the elders. Asma Banu has become a role model to all by her cultivation related work,” he said.

State backward class commission president K Jayaprakash Hegde presided over the programme. Prathistana members Anupama S Shetty and others were present. Ramkishan Hegde welcomed. Journalist K C Rajesh compered the programme.

Asma Banu, special achiever in agriculture who has collected this year more than 840 varieties of paddy seeds that are on the verge of extinction was presented with the B Appanna Hegde agriculture award.
