Udupi, Dec 25: “The decision of chief minister Siddaramaiah to lift the ban on wearing the hijab in educational institutions has been warmly welcomed,” according to Yaseen Malpe, the president of the Udupi District Muslim Okkuta.

In a statement, Yaseen Malpe expressed appreciation for the chief minister's announcement, stating, “It is a highly positive development. He noted that this decision rectifies the intense opposition faced by thousands of Muslim students during the previous BJP government's tenure. The state government's discriminatory policies compelled numerous Muslim students to abruptly halt their education halfway. The recent accomplishments in the education sector, achieved through exceptional dedication, will now provide an opportunity for thousands of minority students to continue their studies. The Udupi District Muslim Okkuta strongly urged the state government to issue an official order on this matter without succumbing to any political pressure or bias.

“Despite the BJP's efforts to create animosity, the BJP has not learned any lessons yet. Consequently, it is currently fuelling unnecessary controversies regarding the chief minister's statement. The Udupi District Muslim Okkuta is optimistic that the chief minister will issue a formal order soon, standing firm against the BJP's divisive politics. The Udupi District Muslim Okkuta has called on the chief minister to remain undeterred by any political manoeuvres and promptly release the order, granting thousands of minority students the opportunity to pursue their education without any hindrance,” he stated in the statement.
