Daijiworld Media Network

Hyderabad, Sep 9: Giselle Mehta's debut novel 'Blossom Showers' was launched in Hyderabad on Wednesday September 7 by Telugu star couple Nagarjuna and Amala Akkineni.

Giselle Mehta, a well-known Mangalorean, had earlier launched her novel in Mangalore on July 17 this year.

The book was launched at Reliance TimeOut outlet in Jubilee Hills.

Speaking after the launch, Nagarjuna appreciated the author and said that the book was full of twists and turns. "The first part is interesting and I am looking forward to read the rest," he said.

Amala congratulated Giselle and said that she had started started reading the book already and found it compelling. "I am delighted here to be here with Nagarjuna for the launch of this lovely book. I started with the first chapter day before yesterday, and it starts with a bang. I simply admire Giselle's language, her articulation, the way she has used descriptive writing to make it so interesting," she said.

"I wish you success and hope you write many more books and inspire others to read and to write," she added.

Author Giselle Mehta elaborated on the story of the novel and said that it spans three generations of the Cordelio family. "My mother Louella Lobo Prabhu was a well-known writer in Karnataka. I too wished to become a writer," Giselle added.

"I published my poetry book 'Aerial Roots' in 2001. But for this novel I had to do lots of research," Giselle said.

Giselle read out excerpts from the book, after which an interactive session was held with the audience.

Giselle's husband Dharmendra Mehta, TV9 CEO V Ravi Prakash and others were present.

About 'Blossom Showers'

Blossom Showers is a gripping novel centred on three generations of the Cordelio family, alternating between India’s Western Ghats and West Coast.  Rex Cordelio, the dispossessed heir of a noble family, makes his fortune and founds his own coffee planting dynasty. He commences a tale of triumph and turbulence that will carry over into the lives of his descendants, as they each seek identity and emotional wholeness.

Propelled by an eventful pace and memorable characters, Blossom Showers resonates with social history and psychological insight to imprint itself as a truly compelling saga.

About the Author

Giselle Mehta has Masters’ Degrees in International Relations and English Literature. She is an Associate of Trinity College, London, in Speech and Drama.

Her professional life began with being the bureaucrat in the Indian Revenue Service, parting ways after 10 years to embrace enterprise and self-exploration.

She particularly enjoys creative pursuits rooted in the communicative process - writing, theatre and speaking.

Giselle reserves a special space in her life for altruistic concerns and humane initiatives. She is the author of Aerial Roots, a published collection of her poems. 'Blossom Showers' is her debut novel.

    Dear Friends,
Many thanks for your views and comments.
It was really a pleasure to have the warm and engaging presence of cine celebrities Nagarjuna and Amala Akkineni at my book launch event. I wish them ever greater renown and reach in their own range of activities.

Mr Tony, you would not have heard of the 'Cordelios' because this is a fictional family and even the name is invented.
Darryl, in Hyderabad you can get my book at Reliance Time Out and Landmark. There are also many online ordering options indicated on my website www.gisellemehta.com.

Great. Giselle is making waves again in Hyderabad. This book was released in Mangalore at which several dignitaries were present. It is a known fact that Giselle has imbibed all the great qualities of heart and mind from her worthy father J.M.Lobo Prabhu - very affectionately known to most of us as Uncle Bob. Giselle has also inherited writing qualities from her mother Louella. That apart Giselle in her own right has been a great person blessed with that vocabulary, expression, intonation and all that which makes one a good orator. She is a born writer too and it a pleasure to read her books.

Giselle has most graciously presented Irene and me with her Book 'BLOSSOM SHOWERS'. In her wonderful style of writing she brings out poignantly to light three generations. This book is passing hands and is presently being read by my daughter Cherry. Gis has found the right companion too in Dharmendra Mehta known to most of us as D.B. He has been an inspiration to Giselle and a part of her success is due to the constant encouragement and support which he receives from her husband. What is good to see is the fact that their two children are also walking in the footsteps of the parents and indeed they conducted the last show admirably when they introduced the chief guests with an easy style of expression.

    May this family be blessed.

Sounds good and I look forward to reading the book at the earliest opportunity. I have known and heard about quite a few tea and coffee planters like Mathias, Costa, Colaco, Mascarenhas and Pintos, to name a few from Kelagur, Balehannur, Mudigere, Koppa, (Chickmagalur District), right from early 20th century, but never heard of Cordelio family and their dynasty, and it will be interesting to read the history and the story. By the way, good luck with the sale of the book, Giselle Mehta.

Nagarjuna and Amala no doubt are a Star couple but are also actively involved in animal care. They run a NGO called Blue Cross of Hyderabad which looks after animal welfare. The author, Giselle Mehta is also actively involved with the welfare of animals here at Mangalore. Blossom Showers also has subtle messages inbuilt in the storyline and characters for sensitivity towards animal care.
