Maharashtra, Dec 26: The life story of entrepreneur and TEDx speaker Kalpana Saroj is truly inspiring, marked by a journey filled with both triumphs and tribulations. Currently holding the esteemed position of chairperson at Kamani Tubes Limited, her rise to success is a testament to her resilience and entrepreneurial prowess.
Originally hailing from Akola in Maharashtra, Kalpana faced the challenges of growing up in a humble background. Her father, a police constable, played a crucial role in her early life. However, her trajectory took a challenging turn when, against her wishes, she was married off at the tender age of 12 to a man residing in Mumbai's slums. The ensuing years brought not only the harsh realities of slum life but also mental and physical abuse at the hands of her husband and in-laws.
Determined to break free from this oppressive situation, Kalpana's father intervened and managed to rescue her from the slums. Unfortunately, her return sparked controversy and opposition from the villagers in her native town, who disapproved of her leaving her husband. Faced with societal condemnation, she found herself at the brink of despair, attempting suicide. Against all odds, she survived this dark period and emerged stronger.
Refusing to be defined by her past, Kalpana immersed herself in work as a means of healing. She founded a production house, KS Film, specializing in the distribution of English, Hindi, and Telugu movies. Simultaneously, she delved into real estate ventures, demonstrating a remarkable work ethic and determination. Her journey also led her to employment at Kamani Tubes Limited.
Kalpana's entrance into Kamani Tubes Limited marked a turning point for the struggling company. Her entrepreneurial acumen and strategic vision breathed new life into the business, transforming its fortunes. Today, she not only holds the prestigious position of chairperson at Kamani Tubes Limited but also boasts a remarkable personal wealth, with assets totalling an impressive Rs 917 crore. She was awarded the Padma Shri for Trade and Industry in 2013. Kalpana Saroj's story is a beacon of hope, illustrating the extraordinary heights that can be reached through perseverance, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit.
