Bangalore: Milk Price Set to Soar Once Again

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Sep 10: In all likelihood, the price of ‘Nandini’ brand milk and milk products being marketed by Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), will go up shortly. KMF has approached the state government with a request to permit it to hike the milk price by three rupees a litre.

It may be recalled that milk prices are going up all over the country because of increasing cost of living, fodder, cattle feed etc. Recently, Kerala government had hiked milk prices by around Rs 4.50 a litre.

In its letter, KMF has pointed out that the sale price of milk in neighbouring states is around Rs 28 to Rs 30, and that milk being supplied by private agencies in the state is being sold at Rs 27 a litre. It has claimed that increasing procurement cost of the milk has compelled them to approach the government to fix the rate of milk at not less than Rs 25 a litre. It says that energy and power tariffs have already gone up, and rates of water and other items are set for upward revision shortly.

The price of milk, which happens to be Rs 21 in other districts and Rs 22 in coastal districts, will go up to Rs 24 and 25 respectively, if the government gives its nod for the above proposal.
