Mangaluru: Physiotherapy has marched towards doctorate from diploma – Dr U T Iftikar Ali

Mangaluru, Dec 28: “Great changes have taken place on the opinion physiotherapy field that were prevailing in the beginning. Now Indian physiotherapists are recognised worldwide and it has reached from diploma to doctorate. Physiotherapists should work enthusiastically,” said Dr U T Iftikar Ali, syndicate member of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Dr Ali was speaking after receiving honour in the felicitation programme that was held at the K S Hegde auditorium of Deralakatte on him being elected as the syndicate member.

Dr Ali further said, “Working in the higher education centre at Bengaluru and as HOD of old students department of Nitte Physiotherapy College in Sharjah medical education institution is an honour to the organization. In 1993-95, physiotherapy section was addressed as Massage department. Continuous protests, fights with Rajiv Gandhi University, awards by physiotherapy lecturers, continuous workshops and international conventions have brought great changes in the sector.

“As my wife is a surgeon, many insulted physiotherapy when I was engaged to her. People also called me as belonging to Psycho department. However, now physiotherapy has become a field that is honoured and identified. After getting severely injured in the accident, I underwent physiotherapy as the orthopaedic surgeon advised and got cured completely. Later, I took the same course.

“Indian physicians have plenty of opportunities throughout the world and honoured also. Students have to keep in touch with Mangaluru and also protect the honour of our land. When my brother U T Khader was the health minister first physiotherapy college of state Sanjay Gandhi Memorial College was founded in Bengaluru. Now the course has gone from diploma to doctorate.”

HOD of Nitte biochemistry department Dr Sukanya Shetty was the chief guest. Dr Danesh Kumar K U, principal of physiotherapy college and Krishnaprasad K M were present.
