80 Bags of Ammonium Nitrate Seized in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Sep 10 (IANS): Eighty bags of ammonium nitrate and 80 detonators, suspected to be meant for Maoist rebels for making landmines, were seized in two separate incidents in Jharkhand Saturday, police said.

According to police, a truck laden with the 80 bags was seized near Barhi of Hazaribagh district. The driver and his assistant were detained.

Eighty detonators were seized from Karmatand village of Jamatra district, around 350 km from Ranchi. Two people were arrested.

"It seems that the seized ammonium nitrate and detonators were meant to be supplied to the Maoist guerrillas. The Maoist rebels use ammonium nitrate in making landmines," a police official in Ranchi told IANS.
