Mangalore, Sep 11: ‘Ek Dees Wilfyaba Songhim' (A day with Wilfy Rebimbus) is a concept announced by Jeppu parish in memory of the late Konkani singing legend who was born and brought up in Jeppu and also contributed his services in a significant way.

On November 27, 2011, the event will be hosted on the Jeppu church open ground.

The event will feature a special Mass in the morning for the repose of the soul of Wilfy Rebimbus.

A cultural event will be held in the evening to pay a loving tribute to him in the form of a musical programme by Wilfy’s group members.

"Various dances selected from songs by the late Wilfy will be presented by the talented groups of the parish along with the enactment of a play written by late Wilfy," said parish priest Fr Nelson Almeida speaking to Daijiworld

"Some of late Wilfy’s close associates will be the guests of honour on that day and they will share their personal relationship with Wilfy. Apart from these events, the life history of late Wilfy will be presented through a Power Point programme," he said.

Wilfy's Contribution to Jeppu Parish:

‘Mozo Thalo Gaitholo, Tuji Vodvik Sangtholom, Tujo Upkaar Atoitholom…' it was the voice of Konkan Kogull, late Wilfy Rebimbus.  This Konkan voice and the great legend has left this world and gone to his eternal abode. It is one and half years now but his memory will always be cherished in Jeppu parish.

In the year 1957, as a founder member of St Joseph’s Natak Sangh, he started his musical career. After that, he never turned back but marched ahead boldly to create history in the field of music.  During his lifetime, he focused his attention on the parish and the welfare of the people. From his youth to his death, he participated in all the parish activities. As an active member of the Natak Sangh, he staged many dramas and musical nites, especially on ‘Intruz Sunday’ (the Sunday before the beginning of Lent), which is a popular celebration of Jeppu parish.

He encouraged the youth of the parish to bring out their hidden talents and prove themselves in the world. Many have followed in his footsteps and have placed Jeppu parish’s name on the world map of achievements and accomplishments.  He was the founder of the Catholic Sabha.

Wilfy was the vice-president of the parish council for the past four terms and remained so until death embraced him. His death caused an irreparable loss to the parish as he was always at the forefront to assist the various requirements of the people.
