Dubai, Dec 31: Devesh Alva, a Mangalurean and a prominent figure in Dubai's social circles, succumbed to illness this morning after a year-long battle. He was a partial owner of Pioneer Marine Services and previously served as the Divisional Manager at Solas Marine Services. Devesh Alva initiated the well-known Woodlands Indian Restaurant in Sharjah in 2008, along with Woodside Restaurant.

A respected businessman, community leader, and philanthropist, Devesh contributed silently to community circles, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and religion. His demise is a profound loss for the Dubai community, and he will be fondly remembered.

A Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from SDM College of Engineering & Technology, Devesh Alva was an active athlete and had a fondness for singing. He played a pivotal role in establishing the SDM College Alumni association in Dubai.

Recently celebrating his 50th birthday with close associates and family, he also served as the general secretary of UAE Bunts. In 2023, as the manager of 'Bunts Premier League Season 03,' he successfully organized the league and knockout tournament in November at Ajman.

Devesh was an extraordinary individual with a golden heart, known for his straightforwardness, courage, and generosity. He played a crucial role in organizing the Global SDMite meet in Dubai a few years ago and assisted numerous people in finding job opportunities abroad.

Today, hundreds gathered at the Sonapur, Muhaisnah Mortuary, Dubai, to pay their last respects and offer prayers. His body embalming was carried out to facilitate sending the mortal remains to Mangaluru for final rites.

KNRI president Praveen Shetty of Fortune Group of Hotels led the arrangements for the repatriation process. Many community heads from Karnataka and Mangalorean Community Associations, along with close friends and families, gathered to pay their final respects and offer prayers for Devesh's soul to rest in peace.

Devesh is survived by his parents, Jaya and Lalitha Alva, wife Reshma Naik Alva, and son Laksh.

The funeral is scheduled to take place at his residence in Mangalore on December 31, 2023. The community mourns the loss of a true gentleman who provided invaluable help to many in need during his time in Dubai.
