Osama probe Panel Visits Pakistan Air Force Headquarters

Islamabad, Sep 11 (IANS): The commission probing the US raid in Abbottabad to take out Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden visited the Pakistan Air Force headquarters for a briefing on the functioning of radars.

US commandos had flown undetected into Abbottabad May 2 onboard stealth helicopters for the raid against Osama.

A senior air force officer highlighted events leading to the Abbottabad operation in a presentation.

The officer spoke about the radar system's functioning.

He indicated situations where the radar system could not detect an intruding aircraft or helicopters because of terrain limitations, Dawn reported.

The officer said that the air force had maintained peacetime measures on its western borders for the past many years.

He went on to say that the air force took adequate operational measures as per the standard operating procedures.
