New Year 2024 ushered in with worship in Mangaluru, Udupi churches

Mangaluru/Udupi, Dec 31: The Christian community in Mangaluru, Udupi embraced the arrival of the new year, 2024, with prayers and expressions of gratitude.

Worshippers gathered in churches on Sunday evening to offer thanks to God for His protection throughout the year 2023. They prayed for the new year to bring happiness, peace, and tranquility to everyone's lives.

In a joyous commencement of the New Year 2024, Our Lady of Milagres Church in Mangaluru radiated warmth and gratitude through a Thanksgiving Adoration, led by Fr Robin.

The solemnity of Mary the Mother of God, was fervently celebrated by Fr Uday presiding over the Holy Eucharist.

The words of God were shared by Fr Maxim. Fr Bonaventure, Fr Michael, Fr Robin, and Fr Cyril concentrated the Eucharist.

The faithful gathered at Our Lady of Milagres Church were treated to a spiritually uplifting start to the year, fostering a sense of unity and devotion within the community.

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Udupi Diocese presided over the holy mass at Kallianpur Milagres Cathedral on Sunday night. During the service, he encouraged the Christian community to follow the path guided by God, pray for global peace in the upcoming year, and contribute to efforts for world peace.

Before the holy mass, a special adoration of the Holy Eucharist took place, expressing gratitude to the Almighty for blessings in 2023. Prayers were extended for peace in 2024, particularly in war-affected regions worldwide.

The service at Milagres Cathedral included the presence of parish priest Fr Valerian Mendonca, assistant parish priest Fr Joy Andrade, and guest priests Fr Hector D'Souza, Fr Nitesh D'Souza, and Fr Ronson D'Souza.

In other major churches across the district, New Year celebration masses were conducted by Fr Leslie D'Souza at Shirva Our Lady of Health Church, Fr. Charles Menezes at Lady of Sorrows Church in Udupi, Fr Stany Tauro at Holy Rosary Church in Kundapur, Fr Alban D'Souza at Saint Lawrence Basilica in Attur, Karkala, and Fr Dennis D'Sa at St Ann's Church in Thottam.

As part of the New Year festivities, youth organizations in the churches organized special cultural programmes and cake distribution. After the mass, Christians exchanged greetings with each other.
