Mangaluru: 25-yr-old Mudigere resident held for sexual assault of minor girl

Mangaluru, Jan 1: The Ullal Police have arrested an accused in connection with the sexual assault of a 17-year-old minor girl, who is a resident of Mudigere, Chikkamagaluru district.

The accused arrested is Mohammed Razneen (25), a resident of Jannapur Post in Mudigere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district.

Razneen, the accused made the victim, who belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, to come to Pumpwell in Mangaluru by bus from her village Anjur in Mudigere taluk. He then took her to his rented house in his auto rickshaw. He then sexually assaulted the minor and promised her that he would marry her.

It is said that the accused Mohammed Razneen knew the victim was a minor girl and that she belonged to the SC community. Also, he claimed to have fallen in love with the girl four months ago.

Based on the complaint filed by the girl, the Ullal police arrested the accused on Sunday, December 31 and produced to before the court. He was later remanded to judicial custody.

The investigation was conducted under the direction of Anupam Agarwal, commissioner of police, Mangaluru city and with guidance from DCP Siddharth Goyal, ACP, ACP Dhanya N Nayak. Police station inspector Balakrishna, sub-inspectors Sheethal Alagura, Santhosh Kumar D, head constables Nandish Kumar, Ranjith Kumar, Udayakumar, Manjunath, female head constables Srilatha, constables Manjunath, Akthar, Naveen, Manoj, female staff Shazim Fatima and Lakshmi were part of the operation.
