Kundapur, Sep 11: Little kids who are just beginning school are known to throw tantrums and simply refuse stepping out of the house. And many a time, it is the boring, dull environment at school that is to blame.

Here is a school that has attempted to set new trends, at least in this region. Siddhivinayaka Residential School at Hattinangady in the taluk has always laid emphasis on ushering in new experiments to make education more enjoyable and affective.

One such endeavour of this school is in witness at the pre-primary section of the school, where unique furniture has been designed keeping in mind the tastes of the small children attending the classes.

Of late, education has gained prominence, and even poor parents go overboard to provide best of education to their children. A popular notion prevalent among the parents is that schools with better facilities always provide better education.

The above school has designed colourful benches, each of which accommodate two students, and in which figures of animals like tigers, lions, elephants, cats, Mickey mouse etc, which buoy up the moods of the children, have been carved. The benches also have provision to keep school bags, tiffin boxes, and water bottles. The entire atmosphere in the class room has been designed to arouse curiosity among the students. The experiment, first of its kind in the region, is sure to make the students more knowledgeable besides making them happy, as curiosity results in additional knowledge.

The pre-primary section of the school has 156 children, who hail from nooks and corners of the taluk. Sharankumar Bhat, administrator of the trust running the school, says that 80 sets of these benches were procured from Aesthetic Interior Decorators, Bangalore, and that they have benefited the young students a lot. Headmistress, Sharmila, too says that these unique benches have aroused curiosity, inventive, and inquisitive nature among the children, besides making it an enjoyable experience for them to sit on them.

Hattiangady Siddhivinayaka Residential School, which runs pre-primary, primary, and high school sections, provides hostel facility for students studying in fifth and above standards. The school encourages extra curricular activities by providing training in various art forms like Karnatak classical music, Hindustani, light music, chess, skating, playing of instruments, Yakshagana, Yoga, etc. The school also takes credit for organizing two state level chess tournament here. The high school section, which has secured cent percent result in SSLC examination for the eighth consecutive year this time, has always been open to new experiments and providing new experiences to its students.

A classic example for 'out of the box' thinking. I feel, one can come up with several such innovations, if he makes an attempt to think differently. Great work indeed.
